Welcome to our blog
So here you are. And here we are. With everything you ever wanted to know about college, and then some. So whatever it is you’re curious about (school-related, please) ask away. Or search for it. Because here, you’ll hear it all first-hand from a group of us just living the dream. Welcome.
Well Fall Break has come and with it came what has become my annual trip to Fayetteville. The drive is actually alright once you get past the whole 4 and a half hour thing. The Ozarks are really beautiful to drive through, especially in the fall. The point of the trip though is to hang out with all my friends that are going to school up there. It was even better this year because we’re all old enough to actually enjoy all of Dixon now. My only complaint though was the football game. It wasn’t really Arkansas losing that bothered me, it was how boring the game was. Seriously, one touchdown the whole game? Anyway the break went by was too fast, but it was a good one once again. Time to knuckle up and grind out the rest of the semester.
Monday Night Football was amzing this week; if you didn’t see it, you missed what is gonna be one of the best games of the year. It’s not very often that a team can comeback from 6 turnovers, especially all by the quarterback because you expect his confidence to be shot, but it happened. Tony Romo led the Cowboys to 10 unanswered points in the last 2 minutes of the game, the last 3 points as a game winning field goal after an onside kick to beat the Buffalo Bills. What a Monday night!
You know those bad dreams you sometimes have the night before a big test? Where in your dream, you wake up and realize your alarm didn’t go off and you’re now late for your test? Well, in my three years of college, I’ve had many dreams (actually, nightmares) about this, but it’s never actually happened. But as the saying goes, there’s a first for everything.

So, when I arrived (a little late, as always) for Molecular Bio lab last week , there was a sticky note on the lab door that said, “Katee, we have gone to the chapel to climb to the top. Meet us there.” I wasn’t exactly sure what Dr. Ong was thinking, but anything was better than beginning the paper presentation we were supposed to be doing. I was assuming that we were going to climb to “The Room” in the Brown Chapel, so I was a little excited because I had never been up there. You hear lots of rumors about that room….it’s one of those locked places that you’re not suppose to go into and technically shouldn’t be able to get into, but everyone does it anyway.

Well unless you’ve been under a rock, you’ve probably heard about the release of the newest edition in the nerd hit series, Halo 3. I guess I don’t have a whole lot of room to talk since I’ve played it as well. People, mostly guys, have been rockin aliens left and right, and taking it to multiplayer with other students across the college LAN. It’s a pretty fun game to play every now and again, but it’s funny to hear the stories of the people who take gaming a little too seriously and end up holed up in their rooms for a week or so. Anyway, have fun doin what you do, just don’t let it fail you outta school.

Well things are all good for the year so far; Senior year has gotten a lot more busy than I thought it would be though. SGA meetings and being a committee chair as well as all my other obligations with frat and other clubs. Luckily classwork hasn’t been ridiculous. All the while though I’ve had something hanging around in the back of my mind that I rarely forgot about - my MCAT score.

Well, we’re now about a week into classes, and things have started to get into a groove. Freshman have had the luxury of being moved in by upperclassmen, and gone then been through the un-luxury of the orientation process. Later it is the fun of memorizing your new schedule and finding new classrooms for the first time. At the same time, there is the getting aquainted with the roommate process, and building your raft with your mentor group for the raft race that just took place on Monday. It’s a lot to handle for the first week.

During my summer of research on C. elgans, our lab attended the 16th International C. elegans Meeting held on the campus of UCLA. I know it may be hard to believe, but 1,600 people came to this conference to share their research and observations about one tiny nematode. Let me tell you, these people were serious about worms. No matter where you went, there was always a group of people engaged in a conversation about C. elegans.

Yep so I’m back from trip #2 for the summer. This time was backpacking in the Rockies out in New Mexico. I was an Eagle Scout back in the day so when one of the advisors for a trek out to Philmont got hurt, I got an invite and jumped at the chance to be an advisor and the chance to go again.

Dr. Gregerson, an associate professor of biology, announced late last semester that he had accepted a position at a college in Savannah, GA and would begin teaching there this fall. Ask anyone and they’ll agree with you….Dr. Gregerson left some big shoes to fill. He taught classes like Genetics and Molecular Biology and was the pre-med advisor. Oh yes, and he was named Arkansas Professor of the Year…..twice. That should give some insight regarding the quality of his teaching.
