Sports

Whether you watch or play, a college experience wouldn’t be complete without teams to cheer for. From the student section to the stadium concessions.

Random Thoughts

So it is officially my last semester at Lyon College.  While I am not 100 % sure I want to leave everyone I’ve meet here behind, I am ready for a change.  The biggest change that I want to happen is living somewhere besides a dorm.  Dorms serve their purpose but they get a little old after a while.  I’ve figured out that the trick is to stay out of them for as long as possible.  Spend all your time elsewhere.  Another change that I am looking foward to is having my own parking space.  The parking area for Young House leaves something to be desired.  If you get lucky you can get a spot in the lower lot which isn’t far from the dorms but the not so lucky have to park in what is called the Way-Out-There Lot (also known as the WOT Lot).  I am ready for my own parking spot that is close to my house/apartment/wherever I live.  I am ready for a house but I don’t have the money for a house.  I am going to grad school next year so I doubt the whole house thing will happen anytime soon anyways…

Swim!!!

Although I cannot claim to be good at it, I love to swim. So I was very excited to hear when I was a prospective student that Lyon has an Olympic-sized pool. When I arrived on campus, however, I was astounded to figure out that there was no swim team.

Syllamo Bike Trails

Weekends are definately the time to kick back and relax from the painful week you just had. If you enjoy the outdoors, there is nothing like an outting to Syllamo to make your weekend right. Next weekend, I plan on taking the next one of my excursions out near Mountain View to the Syllamo Bike Trails. Here there are several miles of scenic trails ranging from beginner to expert based on how mean of a ride you want. I’m looking forward to my descent of the Stairway to Heaven and hopefully fewer scars than last time. There’s always someone willing to go with you as many of XAS also make regular trips during biking season. So, if I’m not back by 5pm next Saturday, call Fish and Game to come find me out on the trails :).

Intramural Athletics

The Intramural Athletic Program at Lyon provides a wonderful opportunity for students to engage in a variety of compepetitive sports.  Coach Tim Servis, director of intramural athletics, is responsible for scheduling the events.  Different sports such as flag football, volleyball, sand volleyball, basketball, and softball are offered each semester.  The fraternities and soroities on campus always participate in intramurals, and team points are awarded for every victory, so competition among the Greeks can, at times, become somewhat intense.  Still, good sportsmanship prevails during the games, as the main goal is simply to have fun.

Baseball

As the end of the semester nears, the “To Do” list seems to get longer and longer. There are papers to write, presentations to prepare, and final exams lurk in the future. However, sometimes in the midst of all the craziness of college life, it is nice to set aside time to enjoy the small things that college life has to offer.
