Welcome to our blog
So here you are. And here we are. With everything you ever wanted to know about college, and then some. So whatever it is you’re curious about (school-related, please) ask away. Or search for it. Because here, you’ll hear it all first-hand from a group of us just living the dream. Welcome.
When the whole Facebook epidemic hit a few years ago, everyone warned me that if I got it, I’d be addicted. I’m sad to say that they were right. Yet, the creators of Facebook just couldn’t leave good enough alone; they had to make it “better”. First came the Mini-Feed, which created tons of controversy as it showed practically every detail about changes made to “friends” pages, displayed wall-to-walls, etc. And now, there are all of these crazy applications that can be added to your profile page. When I go to look at a friend’s wall, I have to scroll down for practically two minutes because of all the applications they’ve added to their page. Some of the applications are fun…..the SuperPoke!, Graffiti Wall, Greek Family Tree….and others just seem a little strange. I keep getting invitations to add the Zombie and Vampire Slayer apps….to me, that qualifies as strange. But hey, maybe I’m completely alone in these opinions…comments, anyone?
No not really. I actually hate mohawk haircuts, and it seems that a lot of people are starting to get them again. I say a lot, but just a few of them seems like a lot. So just because I had never had one before and wanted to officially be able to say that I didn’t really like them, I got one. Yep…see I have had a buzzed hair cut pretty reguarly lately, so it didn’t start out weird, but then there is the fin thing that sticks up. It was just gonna be a joke, but I’ve gotten some pretty funny reactions to it. The first response from one of my professors was, “What? Are you getting ready for your debut in the World Wrestling Federation?” Don’t ask me what that means, it’s just funny to hear a professor say this. So actually, it is kinda fun to have a mohawk, but I would only caution one per lifetime. It’s fun for maybe a week, but for some reason people just get really uncomfortable around them.
This coming weekend will be one of the busiest weekends of the year, second only to Scottish Fest in the spring; it’s Homecoming here at Lyon! The actual Homecoming activities don’t begin until Friday afternoon, but we’ve had Homecoming stuff going on all week. The annual Window Painting Contest in Ed’s went well as usual….if you haven’t checked it out, you definitely should. Today at lunch, I caught a glimpse of the ogre from Shrek and the pumpkin carriage from Cinderella…very interesting stuff. Also, the ever-popular “Hoop Dreams” will be held tonight in the gym. The Scots and Pipers Basketball team will play some scrimmage games; there are drawings for all sorts of prizes and opportunities for quite a bit of audience participation.

Well Fall Break has come and with it came what has become my annual trip to Fayetteville. The drive is actually alright once you get past the whole 4 and a half hour thing. The Ozarks are really beautiful to drive through, especially in the fall. The point of the trip though is to hang out with all my friends that are going to school up there. It was even better this year because we’re all old enough to actually enjoy all of Dixon now. My only complaint though was the football game. It wasn’t really Arkansas losing that bothered me, it was how boring the game was. Seriously, one touchdown the whole game? Anyway the break went by was too fast, but it was a good one once again. Time to knuckle up and grind out the rest of the semester.
Monday Night Football was amzing this week; if you didn’t see it, you missed what is gonna be one of the best games of the year. It’s not very often that a team can comeback from 6 turnovers, especially all by the quarterback because you expect his confidence to be shot, but it happened. Tony Romo led the Cowboys to 10 unanswered points in the last 2 minutes of the game, the last 3 points as a game winning field goal after an onside kick to beat the Buffalo Bills. What a Monday night!
You know those bad dreams you sometimes have the night before a big test? Where in your dream, you wake up and realize your alarm didn’t go off and you’re now late for your test? Well, in my three years of college, I’ve had many dreams (actually, nightmares) about this, but it’s never actually happened. But as the saying goes, there’s a first for everything.
