As the end of the semester nears, the “To Do” list seems to get longer and longer. There are papers to write, presentations to prepare, and final exams lurk in the future. However, sometimes in the midst of all the craziness of college life, it is nice to set aside time to enjoy the small things that college life has to offer.

Take this afternoon for example. It was such a beautiful afternoon; the weather was cool and windy, but the sun was still shining bright, thus making it a perfect afternoon to attend a baseball game. Yes, I probably should have worked on the scads of organic chemistry homework or finished the source readings for Western Civilization, but I decided to take a break and watch some baseball. I’ll admit that I do get easily distracted at baseball games; time spent in the bleachers equals time spent catching up with friends. But today, while sitting behind home plate, I was again reminded of the sense of community that exists among the student body at Lyon.

Whether our baseball boys, or any athletic team, are winning or losing, we’re still in the stands, cheering them on and lending our support. Although our student body may be relatively small, it envelops a sense of involvement and level of caring that is sometimes muted in larger student populations.
