Concerned about the cafeteria food, campus safety, or the Honor or Social Code? The Student Government Association at Lyon has got it covered. Essentially, SGA represents the voice of the students. Bi-monthly meetings are held with the Student Body President, class representatives, dorm representatives, and faculty advisors. A majority of SGA’s work is accomplished through committees, in which members work to address various issues and communicate ideas and concerns of students to the administration.

In addition, SGA controls the Student Activity Fee that is included in the yearly tuition; this money funds SAC (Student Activities Council) events, campus newspapers, journals, and yearbooks, various activities of campus clubs, and much more. Upperclassmen representatives are elected every spring and freshmen reps are elected in the following fall semester.

Personally, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent on SGA. I have served as a representative for Blandford Hall, sophmore class representative, and will be SGA treasurer for the upcoming year. It’s extremely satisfying to look back on the progress that SGA has made over the past two years and know that I was able to play a small role in those accomplishments. Honestly, I believe that SGA is one of the best ways to get involved with campus life.
