As if the spring semester wasn’t crazy enough, there is always that question of finding that summer job. It’s a little different as well when we get to college because there is a career to keep in mind for the long run. Rather than what might first come to mind as a summer job like the grocery store or a retail job at the mall, there is a need for professional experience to consider. Whether it be working in a research lab or doctor’s office for science majors or as an intern for big corporations like Axciom, internships are where it’s at for resume building. Luckily for us students, the Career Development Center is just a short walk to the Lyon Building. Here the staff has all the latest opening for any type of internship that you can want. I’ve done biology research with some of the faculty here at Lyon, but there is also positions available at UAMS. I’ve also gotten to branch out a bit as well with doing anouncing for the radio station here in town covering the Scots and Pipers basketball games. However, the openings are almost limitless and you can spend hours going over the opportunities available. That’s where the staff at the CDC come in and help. So, next time you’re looking for a summer job while here at Lyon, consider taking a job somewhere better than the burger joint down the road and add a great reference onto the resume at the same time.
